The watch industry routinely goes through major fads. Five or so years ago, every brand started churning out vintage-style dive watches. In 2018, GMTs — especially of the Pepsi variety — were the flavor of the year. 2020 saw a major rise in the amount of integrated bracelet steel sports watches. And now? Well, this is shaping up to be the year of the green dial watch. Just about every major brand has launched one within the last year, and the best green dial watches on the market offer an on-trend look that also happens to be a lot more versatile and timeless than you’d think.
Just because green dial watches are having a moment, that doesn’t mean they’re new or anything. They’ve been around forever, and they’ll still be around after the current mania subsides. That’s a good thing, as it means your green dial watch will always be in style. And while black and blue dial watches are considered watch box essentials, green dial watches shouldn’t be too far behind. After all, green is right next to blue on the color wheel, and you’ll be surprised at how often wearing the emerald color on your wrist complements the rest of your outfit. So take a look at our picks for the best green dial watches for men below, and discover that, contrary to what Kermit the Frog says, it is easy being green.

Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical
Best Field Watch: The quintessential field watch, Hamilton’s Khaki Field Mechanical has a long history that dates back to U.S. soldiers in WWII. And while the black dial original will always remain a classic, we find this military green dial version especially fitting. It’s the same Khaki Field you know and love with its classic field watch dial layout, rugged matte-finished stainless steel case, and 80-hour hand-wound movement, but with the added bonus of a dial that’s the perfect shade for any outdoor adventures.

Farer Lander GMT
Best Microbrand: You may be looking at the photo of the Lander and wondering why we’ve included a blue dial watch in our roundup of the best green dial watches. But that’s the beauty of the Lander. Farer’s flagship GMT watch has developed a reputation for having a chameleonic dial that comes across as various shades of green or blue depending on your viewing angle. Fans can argue until the end of time over whether the dial is really blue or green, but since Farer labels it “sea green sunray,” that’s proof enough of its greenness to warrant inclusion on this list.

NOMOS Glashutte Club Sport neomatik petrol
Best Minimalist: We hear a lot about Swiss watchmaking, and for good reason, but Germany has some notable brands of its own, many of which are known for their minimalist Bauhaus aesthetics. Among the more prominent is NOMOS Glashutte, whose affordable timepieces have an instantly recognizable style, just like this Club Sport Neomatik Petrol, whose diver pretense shouldn’t be overlooked. Impressive for a 37mm watch, the water resistance on this stainless steel piece is all the way at 200m, yet it can easily get by as a dress watch thanks to its minimalism and beautiful petrol green dial.

Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition
Best Surprise Collab: This past year, Oris had some fun with its ProPilot X model when it collaborated with Disney for a Kermit Edition. Featuring the most famous green character of all time inside of the date window, the 39mm timepiece has a titanium case and runs on the brand’s in-house Caliber 400 automatic, which boasts 5 days of power reserve. But mostly, this release serves as a reminder not to take everything so seriously.

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra
Editor’s Pick: We mentioned “go anywhere, do anything” watches a few spots earlier, and there is arguably no better GADA watch being produced today than the Aqua Terra. Omega’s most versatile watch works great in any setting, with a ridiculous aversion to magnetism thanks to its Master Chronometer movement, near-diver-level water resistance, and dressy-sporty looks that never go out of style. And while the AT comes in many striking colors, this muted olive green version of the trademark teak dial is the definition of understated class.

Panerai Radiomir California 45mm
Best Vintage-Inspired: Even more so than Breitling, Panerai is known for offering oversized and thoroughly modern sports watches. But, also like Breitling, they know how to play in the heritage sandbox of their illustrious history, too. The Radiomir was Panerai’s watch in the 1930s, first designed as a military diver for the Royal Italian Navy. Today, it reps the military heritage side of the luxury brand, and nowhere is that better executed than on this army-green dial version that pays homage to the field-tested prototypes from nearly a century ago. This variant, however, offers a California-style dial, which means it sports a half-Arabic/half-Roman numeral style. While Panerai was one of the earliest proponents of California dials, this is the first time it’s been featured in this case size.

Patek Philippe Nautilus
Grail Pick: The most buzzed-about green dial watch released this year, and probably ever, is undoubtedly the 5711/1A-014 Nautilus from Patek Philippe. Envisioned as the replacement for the blue dial Nautilus 5711/1A-014 because it was literally too popular, Patek’s plan to break Nautilus fever may have backfired. The olive Nautilus is even harder to get ahold of than its older brother, with examples trading at nearly ten times the retail price on the secondhand market and the president of the company being quoted as saying recently that even his son couldn’t get one. Oops.

The Best Of The Rest
Other watches worth your money
Seiko Prospex SPB121 “Alpinist”
Beginning with the reference SARB017, the Seiko Alpinist is one of the most iconic green dial watches ever made. And although the SARB017 was discontinued a few years back, its spirit lives on with this upgraded successor. The Prospex Alpinist looks similar to its predecessor with its gold indices, cathedral hands, inner-rotating compass bezel, and of course sunburst green dial, but it’s now been upgraded with a cyclops, anti-reflective coating, and the Caliber 6R35 movement with its 70-hour power reserve.

Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium
Tissot’s “Baby Rolex” is often touted as being perhaps the best Swiss watch under $1,000, and it’s easy to see why. With classic sports watch styling that can easily be dressed up or down, a 40mm case size, and 100m water resistance, the Gentleman makes for a perfect “go anywhere, do anything watch.” But its the watch’s luxury-lite finishing and Powermatic 80 movement with silicon hairspring and 80-hour power reserve that really set it apart in its price bracket. And now that it’s available with a gorgeous green dial, there’s really no reason not to get one.

IWC Pilot’s Watch Mark XX
Recently updating its flagship Pilot’s Watch line for the first time since 2016, IWC Schaffhausen increased the depth rating to 100m and swapped in the manufactured caliber 32111 automatic movement for its Mark XX. Sporting a 40mm stainless steel case, the timepiece has a lineage that begins with the Mark IX, which was a commissioned piece made for the British Ministry of Defense after the 2nd World War. This green version is adorned with a brown calfskin strap and is a brilliant option if you’re looking for something classy but understated.

Cartier Santos de Cartier 40mm
Cartier’s Santos de Cartier watches date back to the late ’70s when integrated sports watches were becoming more and more popular. The French heritage watchmaker decided to do its own version, but while staying true to its classic design ethos. Back in 2018, Cartier relaunched the line with more “modern” styling, including the recent addition of green dials. This 40mm version featuring the lower date window is the larger of the two greens and is housed in a stainless steel case and matching bracelet.

Rolex Sky-Dweller
Rolex, for as popular as it is as a brand, sometimes has a reputation for being too conservative and stuffy. But once in a while, Rolex will come out of left field with something slightly unusual and incredible, and that’s what we have here with this green Sky-Dweller. With a 42mm case made of both Oystersteel and white gold, this unique piece is instantly noticeable on your wrist with its rotating 24-hour disc right at the center, which distinguishes between daytime and nighttime hours in your chosen time zone. Additionally, the fluted bezel helps achieve the timepiece’s 100m of water resistance.

Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition
Glashütte Original’s Original Sixties series is one of the German brand’s best-known lines, as the vintage throwbacks are loaded with mid-century cool. And for this limited edition version of the Original Sixties Chronograph, Glashütte Original really went above and beyond with their dial work. The watch’s retro green dial is handmade, with a dégradé effect that transitions from a bright green at the center to a darker shade at the edge. There’s also an intricate textured pattern that was made using original tools and methods from the watch’s namesake era.

H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Centre Seconds “Mega Cool”
Moser is kind of known for their fumè dials, as the high-end brand has perfected the art of gradient-colored dial work. Their latest take on the effect is expressed in the aptly-named “Mega Cool,” which may be the perfect summer watch. The watch’s “Blue Lagoon” dial shows a remarkable amount of depth, and staring into its iridescent center will have you thinking you could climb onto one of the applied anthracite indices and dive in. Moser also makes a technically greener Pioneer Centre Seconds in the “Cosmic Green” variant, but we dig the blue-green “Mega Cool” because it’s just so, well, cool.

Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight 18K
As this list is ordered by price, you probably didn’t expect to see a Tudor sandwiched between ultra-luxury offerings from Moser and Patek. Well, welcome to Tudor in 2023. The brand has fully emerged from sister brand Rolex’s shadow and is now doing whatever it wants, and whatever it wants is frequently unexpected and always great. Just a couple of years old is this rendition of the uber-popular Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight diver in solid gold, with a Hulk-like green dial and bezel insert to boot. Now, this is how you make a gold watch that people want to wear.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin
While it may look like AP’s answer to rival Patek going green, the emerald Royal Oak actually made its debut a few weeks before Patek’s industry-rattling release. And, for what it’s worth, it may be the more impressive watch. This stupendous version of the most classic Royal Oak reference still measures just 8.1mm thin thanks to its amazing and beautiful Calibre 2121 movement, but it elevates the iconic stainless steel luxury sports watch by upgrading to a platinum case and bracelet along with a smoked green sunburst dial that’s just to die for.
