I didn't even make a big enough batch, they all loved them.

They are just shouting Thanksgiving and fall with the orange spud that either they love them or hate them, either way, they're hidden in this batch of fabulous fluffy yeast bread and nothing compares on the holiday tables when it comes to these sweet rolls.

Take A Little Patience

These are really delicious rolls, yes, they take a little time, but so worth it!

Here in the South, they're really popular, this is a recipe I learned to make while living here in
Florida.

Mom made rolls with white potatoes, and they were super delicious also.

You can substitute white potatoes in this recipe if you aren't a fan of sweet potatoes.

Tips:

  • Potatoes can be microwaved, boiled or they can even be bought pre-cooked and already mashed in the grocery store or you could be used canned as well.
  • Always place the dough in a draft-free area to rise
  • Try and serve warm if possible, these can be reheated in foil on low heat just for a few minutes
  • Serve plain or with cinnamon butter (see recipe below)
  • The rolls freeze well if you want to make them ahead of time (thaw in the refrigerator, wrap in foil and heat on low heat)

If you love cinnamon and holiday fall flavors, here is a great recipe for a butter spread.

This is a copycat recipe I love from a favorite Texas Roadhouse we have here locally.

The butter is sweet and with a hint of cinnamon, it's perfect on these sweet potato rolls while still warm, actually, it's addicting.

Plain or with this simple whipped cinnamon butter, the rolls will be a big delicious hit on your holiday table!

Everyone Asks for Them Every Year!

These warm sweet rolls are a welcome addition to our Holiday tables.

What I love about them, is how moist they are and stay.

They don't dry out like most bread if you don't eat it the first day, however, these won't and don't last long!

Dough Suggestions

I know homemade yeast-risen dough tends to be a little intimidating to make, these are simple, just follow some easy tips below.

This dough needs to be in a warm area to rise at least two hours.

Make sure you cover it with plastic wrap, a metal saucepan cover, and towels to keep any drafts out.

Use whatever methods have worked well for you when making bread, this is what works best for me in our home.

I even lightly spray the plastic wrap with cooking oil so it doesn't stick to the dough for easy removal.

I also put this one top of my oven while it's preheating.

Potatoes

Although you can use either kind of potato, sweet potatoes are sweet and a wonderous vegetable to use.

It certainly makes the dough a nice color for fall as well.

You can use a hint of cinnamon spice in the dough like I do or omit it.

You can add ginger, pumpkin spice, nutmeg, whatever you like or nothing at all, it's just a pinch.

Adapt the dough in flavors the way you like it.
