Learn how to make my amazing Microwave Mug Pizza recipe in just minutes. You can add any toppings you'd like and it's faster and better than pizza delivery!

Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/16 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon marinara sauce
  • 1 generous tablespoon shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 5 mini pepperoni
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (basil or oregano will work)

Instructions

  • Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together in a microwavable mug.

  • Add in the milk and oil then mix together. There might be some lumps but that is ok.

  • Spoon on the marinara sauce and spread it around the surface of the batter.

  • Sprinkle on the cheese, pepperoni, and dried herbs

  • Microwave for 1 minute 10 - 1 minute 20 seconds, or until it rises up and the toppings are bubbling (timing is based on my 1200W microwave so your timing might vary)

  • Enjoy straight away!

Recipe Notes

Cooking time will vary greatly depending on your microwave and the width and depth of the mug. The mugs I use are small, roughly 6oz (¾ /1 cup)

Always keep a close eye on your mug while in the microwave so it doesn’t over flow or over cook.

⅛ teaspoon is simply a ½ of a ¼ teaspoon
1/16 teaspoon is simply a ¼ of a ¼ teaspoon

Hi Gemma.. Thank you very much for this recipe.. I am commenting actually for everyone who is leaving rude remarks.. You can say, “not for me” without being so distasteful.. Me myself, I do prefer a crispy base, which you need an oven for.. But I do not have one, seeing that I have been in Mozambique, living in a tent since 2018, doing what I can to help in a rural area.. I was gifted a microwave 2 months ago from family in South Africa, and now with the lockdowns, food supplies and ingredients are extra scarce.. So thisRead more »

The dough was a little plain and the spices were a bit much on top so o would suggest putting the spices in the dough, but other than that it was delicious

I’ve tried this a couple of times now and it’s disgusting. Does not taste like pizza dough at all and the center is always raw, uncooked glop that looks like pancake batter. For a few more minutes of prep you could make a real pizza.

Hi Gemma, This recipe is lovely, I double the recipe i sometimes make and use marinara sauce but the one I made this evening i used tomato puree, little baby tomatoes and grated cheddar cheese on top, halved the oil and a little less salt and used wholemeal flour instead of white. Put the dough on a plate and flatten to make a base put it in the microwave for 2 minutes on full power to cook the base, then add chosen topping and cook for 1 minute more 🙂

Hey Gemma! Huge fan! I love your cooking. But this one was a little off for me, the dough had a weird dry flavorless donut feeling, not really cooked. But I think that’s just me being a horrible baker. Maybe it’s suppose to be like that? If not, then is there anything I can add to make it more crust-like?
Sorry I don’t mean to be offense I love your cooking. 😀

This mug pizza is average. It doesn’t taste like proper pizza. The dough is undercooked in the middle. I would give this recipe a 2.5. But I absolutely loveeee the mug Mac and cheese it’s amazing and takes 5 minutes. I would rate it 5/5

Which mode is best for pizza in microwave? ›

Why do you put water in the microwave for pizza? ›

The cup of water helps the base stay crispy, still allowing the cheese to melt. But how does it do it? Without a cup of water, the pizza absorbs more of the microwaves being emitted, causing it to heat up quickly. This vaporises the water molecules in the pizza, causing them to permeate the crust and make it soggy.

Is it better to cook pizza in the oven or microwave? ›

Plus, it typically creates a better result (a.k.a. crispy crust and perfectly melted cheese.) In the battle of microwave vs. oven, we say that oven wins (almost) every time. If you don't have an oven or need to be out the door in under 10 minutes, choose the microwave, but the real winner on taste and ease is the oven.

Is pizza good in the microwave? ›

Sticking your pizza in the microwave actually melts the sugar molecules in the dough. Those molecules harden again when the slice cools down. In other words, that crusty-yet-soft texture of fresh pizza crust is long gone after you reheat pizza in the microwave, as is the quality of the cheese.
