Today I’m sharing pajama sewing patterns for men. This includes free pdf patterns, paid pdf patterns, and physical paper ones.
Pj’s are a great DIY gift idea for Christmas, fathers day, and birthdays. They’re practical items that men can get a lot of use out of.

Most of the patterns in today’s post require woven fabrics like cotton and flannel, stretch fabrics, or fluffy fleece for the dressing gowns.
Fabric.com(USA) andMinerva Crafts(UK) have some of the biggest fabric ranges on the web! They’re a great place to look for pajama fabrics. I especially love their licensed character fabrics – Star Wars pajamas anyone?

Note: for UK readers, you might know these as pyjamas instead. And i’ll be talking about “pants” a lot, but I mean full-length bottoms/trousers.
FREE pajama sewing patterns
Free stretch top & pants by Sew a Little Seam

- Sizes: XXS (32″ chest) up to 5X (50″ chest).
- Design: this pattern is a semi-fitted pajama made from stretch fabric. The top can be made with short sleeves or long sleeves (hemmed or cuffed). There is also an optional placket. The bottoms can be hemmed or cuffed.

Men’s pajama inspiration from stores
I had a look at what department stores are selling a lot of. Men’s pj’s can be summed up in 2 words: navy and plaid. That’s pretty much it haha.
- I saw a lot of plain t-shirts with short, long or raglan sleeves.
- 2-piece sets with a button-down shirt were popular.
- Plaid pyjama bottoms were everywhere.
- For a more casual look, I saw lots of sweatpants in grey, navy, and black, with matching sweatshirts.
When I was checking out reviews, a common issue I saw was men complaining that slim-fit pajama bottoms aren’t roomy enough at the crotch. If you’re making slim-fit pj’s from woven fabric, keep this in mind. I would consider going up a size, or using fabrics with some stretch.
